Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Matthew Reid, I am the founder of Rice2008.com. We are a grassroots organization dedicated to several key goals.

Our primary objective was to persuade Condoleezza Rice to run for office and to help get her elected!

We've had millions of visitors, hundreds of thousands of emails, appearances on Meet The Press, Fox News, CNN, cspan and many other outlets--we even encouraged Dick Morris to write a book about a Condi / Hillary matchup.

Other important goals we achieved through our grassroots campaign include:

--Informed the public about Dr. Rice's impressive credentials and achievements.
--Prevented Democrats from monopolizing the credible female candidate for president image
--Illustrated the reality of the Republican "big tent" -- President Bush deserves credit for appointing a well qualified Black woman as NSA (the highest position ever for a Black female) as well as Colin Powell as Secretary of State (the highest position ever held by a Black person) and Education Secretary, Rod Paige. By contrast, President Clinton had only one African-American in his cabinet, the late Commerce Secretary, Ron Brown.

Still, the bottom line is--we failed. Condoleezza Rice is not running for president. We're greatly disappointed, but we've picked ourselves up, dusted ourselves off and we're looking forward. The next best thing to a Dr. Rice presidency, would be having her on the ticket as John McCain's VP. Frankly, her presence on the ticket would make McCain tolerable to many of us and we hope to make it happen.

The next phase of our grassroots effort involves direct contact and communication with the base. And while just about everybody we talk to enthusiastically supports the idea of adding Dr. Rice to the McCain ticket, we need some tangible data. By conducting a research study into the appeal and electability of Dr. Rice as VP -- including comparisons to other potentials, we can elevate the discussion from mere speculation to that of a more serious nature.

We desperately need your help to make this happen. Donations, no matter how small or how large, are welcomed with the utmost appreciation. Your gift of a buck or two, or two hundred dollars--no matter the size--they will help to bring us closer to the goals outlined in this letter. THANK YOU!

We truly believe that America IS ready for a woman VP--and how great would it be if the Republican Party were the party to offer a woman, a Black woman at that, with impeccable qualifications as their candidate?! John McCain will be running against history in the form of either an African American man or a woman. Naming Condi Rice as his VP, allows McCain to capture the attention of the media and the nation; prevents the Democrats from monopolozing the idea of making history and breaking through the glass ceiling(s).

We pledge to put your donations to the best possible use. We are dedicated to making this a reality, or at the very least, beginning a serious discussion about a McCain/Rice ticket.
